Back to Villain Week 2015

Justina was calibrating the equipment in one of the Myindo holding rooms. It was just busy work, the equipment was fine as always, but it was her job to make sure everything in the facility was running smoothly. She let out a sigh. The work of a MegaMy agent was never done.

"Hey, Justina!"

"Hm?" Justina looked up from her work, glancing toward the door. One of her coworkers, Brendon, walked in, dragging a Myindo behind him in one of their holding nets.

"We found this Myindo in the park, talking with a Wari," he explained.

"The park, huh?" Justina raised an eyebrow, turning to get a better look at the Myindo. It was a young girl—barely a teenager, if that—with short, light brown hair. Weirdly, she seemed a little familiar, but maybe she was imagining it. "A little dangerous for a Myindo to be so near the city, isn't it?"

"No, please! I-I'm not a Myindo!" the girl pleaded.

"Oh?" Justina frowned. Admittedly, the girl did look nothing like one usually expected a Myindo to look, instead looking just like a normal person. But, idiot though he may be, Brendon wasn't the type to make a mistake that serious... right?

Well, there was one easy way to find out. She pulled out her trusty magic scanner, kneeling in front of the girl. "We'll see about that."

Justina scans Gloria The girl squirmed uncomfortably as Justina flipped on the scanner. Immediately, the scanner started beeping loudly, reacting to the girl's presence. Justina even had Brendon back off a bit, just to confirm that it wasn't getting a false reading from his equipment, but that changed nothing—it was definitely the girl.

"Well, she has magic. That means she must be a Myindo," she said, raising an eyebrow at the readout her scanner was giving. Remarkably, the girl's aura seemed to consist of equal portions of each element, unlike most Myindo who specialized in only one. She'd never seen anything like it before... but she wasn't about to complain about a rare Myindo.

"I saw her use her magic to heal herself the other day!" Brendon added.

"Healing powers, huh? That sounds like a useful ability." Justina put her scanner away with a smirk. "Mind if I borrow it?"

"P-please," the girl repeated, "you're making a big mistake...!"

"I don't think so," Justina replied bluntly. "Our job is to protect the people from dangerous Myindo like you, and the only way to fight magic is with magic. But since we humans don't have it, well..." She smirked. "You'll see soon enough."

The girl panicked, but Justina barely registered it. Instead, she turned her attention to her coworker. "Brendon? A little help here?"

Brendon nodded. "Yes, ma'am!"

The girl struggled in vain, but she was powerless against the MegaMy, who were able to take her to the magic extraction machine with little effort. As the name implied, the machine was designed to draw the magic out of a Myindo and convert it into something the MegaMy could use.

"There," she said, once she'd finished strapping the Myindo girl into the machine. "Nice and snug, isn't it?"

"N-no... please stop!" the girl cried. Justina rolled her eyes. It was always the same with Myindo.

"Come now, try to relax," Justina replied, moving to the control panel. "This should be over soon enough. Brendon?"

"I'm on it!" Brendon nodded again, moving to one of the other panels.

Justina smiled, and started pressing buttons and flipping switches. The Myindo whimpered nervously at the surely ominous humming of the machine powering up. Finally, she put her hand on the lever that would activate the machine, glancing at Brendon.

"Are we ready?" she asked.

"Everything looks good, ma'am," Brendon replied affirmatively.

"No, please! I'm begging you!"

"Oh, don't worry, this shouldn't hurt a bit," Justina lied. In reality, the process was supposedly quite painful, and some Myindo didn't even survive it. But as long as it meant getting rid of the monsters, Justina didn't care.

However, before she could pull the lever, a loud howling reached Justina's ears, distracting her. Moments later, a Wari charged into the room, a canid creature with fiery red fur. Justina's eyes widened, realizing the Wari looked familiar. Could it be...

"Maggie!" the Myindo girl beamed, further supporting Justina's theory. The colloquial name was a little odd, but... it was too much to be a coincidence.

"...Magmis?" Justina lowered her eyebrows. "So the legends really are true..."

Magmis didn't wait around for chitchat, though, instead immediately charging up an attack and shooting fire into the room. Justina reflexively ducked out of the way, but it didn't matter, as it quickly became clear that the Wari was not aiming for the MegaMy.

"H-hey! It's attacking the equipment!" Brendon shrieked, rushing to attempt and put out the flames now engulfing the console Justina had been standing at.

"Don't use water, you idiot, you'll just damage it more!" Justina snarled, deciding to ignore Brendon for now and instead turn her attention to Magmis. Justina growled, charging up an attack of her own. "Get back here, you mangy mutt!"

Getting the Wari under control was a challenge, more of a challenge than dealing with Wari usually was—which could only be expected, this was the legendary Elemental Wari of Fire they were dealing with. Justina would have found it odd that the Wari had decided to get involved with some stupid Myindo girl, but she didn't have the time to think about it at the moment. Right now, she just needed to get rid of her before it cost her her job.

They'd finally managed to shoo the Wari off, but only after the blasted thing had managed to light the room on fire. Justina gave an exasperated sigh, pondering briefly whether she should follow Magmis or help Brendon extinguish the flames. However, before she could make a decision...

"Justina, the girl!" came Brendon's voice. "The girl is gone!"

"What?!" Justina whirled around, looking to where the Myindo girl had been strapped up. Sure enough, she was gone—the restraints hadn't even been undone, as if she had vanished into thin air. "But how could that...?!"

They searched high and low through the room, and then the entire building, but there was no sign of the Myindo girl Brendon had brought in, nor of Magmis. If it weren't for the scan she'd gotten and the very real fire they'd had to put out, Justina might have thought they had never been there at all.

But where could she possibly have gone?
